The Gentle Jingling of an Emergency
I've noticed that when things go wrong with micro-preemies in the NICU, a warm red light flashes, accompanied by a lyrical siren that sounds like a xylophone. It's as though a gentle, motherly voice is whispering a peculiar lullaby into one's ear: "Your baby is hurt. Your baby is hurt."
